The Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed extending until August 31, 2026, the experiment on labeling meat products, including sausages and similar food products made from meat, offal, or animal blood, as well as those made from poultry meat and offal, packaged in consumer packaging. The corresponding draft of the Russian government resolution has been published by the ministry on the regulatory legal acts projects portal.
The experiment was originally scheduled to end on February 28, 2026. A draft resolution proposing the introduction of mandatory labeling for meat products starting March 1, 2026, was submitted to the government at the end of November 2025 but has not been approved to date.
"The extension of the experiment period from February 28, 2026, to August 31, 2026, will allow participants in the meat products market to conduct additional adjustments to the technical solutions and business processes developed within the framework of the experiment. This includes applying identification markers to meat product packaging and interacting with the monitoring information system for goods subject to mandatory identification labeling," states the explanatory note accompanying the draft.
