The ministry is preparing bans on the use of polymer packaging in the food industry.
Corrugated polymer packaging may also be banned. CorrEx (corrugated plastic containers) refers to rigid trays with cells that hold and protect products.
Deputy Minister Denis Butsayev said that plastic CorrEx packaging is not in demand in the secondary raw materials market and will be replaced with biodegradable packaging. This way, it could be disposed of through composting.
Denis Butsayev also reminded that starting September 1, 2025, in Russia, it will be prohibited to produce colored, multilayer polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles and bottles with polyvinyl chloride (PVC) labels. Non-standard colors are usually found on soft drinks and energy drinks — producers use them to boost consumer demand.
In addition, the Ministry of Natural Resources plans to restrict the use of polystyrene packaging for food products, including chicken eggs, as well as polymer blister packaging, along with bags and films thinner than 20 micrometers.
