Issues with the "Honest Sign" labeling in the dairy industry: possible solutions

Food

On July 23, a joint meeting of the committees and councils of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry was held, during which issues related to maintaining the integrity of the "Honest Sign" labeling and its impact on goods in circulation were discussed. Roman Sychyov, a representative of the Russian Dairy Union, noted that breaches of label integrity result in losses amounting to hundreds of billions of rubles.

When high-quality goods cannot be sold due to labeling issues, both consumers, who are unable to find the necessary products, and producers and retailers, who lose income, suffer. Additionally, the state loses out on VAT revenues.

The dairy sector has been most affected by these problems due to a variety of factors, such as temperature fluctuations and different types of packaging. According to available data, the share of unreadable labels in this sector ranges from 0.2% to 0.5%.

A proposed solution is to allow the sale of 0.3-0.5% of products with unreadable labels without identification in the "Honest Sign" system, provided that the packaging and product quality remain intact.
