"Sibur" is ready to provide manufacturers of syringes with transparent plastic.

"Sibur" has developed transparent polypropylene for safe syringes, reports "Medical Russia." Its use in the production of Russian products will protect the market from low-quality goods, manufacturers believe.

The national project "New Technologies for Health Preservation," launched in 2025, aims to strengthen technological sovereignty in the medical devices market. By 2030, the share of domestic products is expected to increase to 40%. By 2028, production of disposable syringes is planned to triple, replacing imports by 7,500 tons of polymers annually.

To address these goals, SIBUR has developed a special transparent grade of polypropylene. Syringes made from this material allow medical personnel to visually assess the presence of impurities, cloudiness, or sediment in liquids. The new product has been approved by leading manufacturers within the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU). The manufacturer has received confirmation that its products meet the standards set by the European and American Pharmacopoeias.

The company believes that using Russian-made medical products in accordance with Government Decree No. 1875, as well as developing strict GOST standards, will help protect the market from syringes of questionable quality imported into the country. “On one hand, we must establish a strong barrier against the import of substandard and unsafe products, and on the other, ensure stable orders for Russian enterprises,” says Anton Prozumentov, Director of the Healthcare Division at SIBUR.

In 2023, SIBUR introduced several grades of polypropylene for medical syringes. The holding is also developing new products and collaborating with Russian manufacturers to identify alternatives for imported raw materials at its research center "PolyLab."
