Demand for Russian cosmetics in Kazakhstan has surged twofold: shipments of personal care products, makeup, and perfume from Russia to the neighboring republic in February increased nearly twofold year-on-year, reaching $20.1 million, according to calculations by RIA Novosti based on data from Kazakh customs.
The largest share of Russian shipments of the specified goods to Kazakhstan at the end of winter fell on hair products—various lacquers and shampoos (47%). In second place, and almost equal in monetary value, was makeup (46%)—products for applying makeup, skin care, and nail care. The remaining volume consisted of perfume and cologne.
Russian exports account for a fairly significant share of Kazakhstan's beauty market—supplying more than a third of the republic’s imports.
Russia is also actively supplying Kazakhstan with other personal care products that are not classified as cosmetics. For example, more than a third of Kazakhstan's imports of oral hygiene products and the same amount of hair removal products, as well as bath compositions, were shipped from Russia in February.
