INEOS unveiled new Recycl-IN rPP1025C grade with 70% recycled content for contact-sensitive cosmetics packaging.
Petrochemical giant INEOS Olefins & Polymers Europe (part of INEOS Group) announced the launch of a new Recycl-IN rPP1025C grade — a hybrid polymer containing 70% recycled material. The product was specially developed for contact-sensitive cosmetics packaging, where virgin polypropylene has traditionally been used.
The new grade is a natural-colour polypropylene homopolymer designed for thin-walled injection moulding and fibre extrusion. According to the company, the material significantly boosts the sustainability of packaging while retaining familiar strength, aesthetics and ease of processing.
“Recycl-IN hybrid polymers deliver the strength, aesthetics, and processing ease customers expect — while significantly increasing recycled content and reducing CO2 emissions,” INEOS notes.
The key feature of the technology is combining large volumes of mechanically recycled plastic with advanced 'booster' polymers that compensate for the typical variability and performance loss of recycled feedstock. As a result, the material delivers a 35% lower carbon footprint than virgin polymer while maintaining comparable mechanical and optical properties.
The grade is suitable for producing stiff, coloured or translucent cosmetics packaging components:
- screw caps, jars and lids;
- mascara reservoirs and caps;
- deodorant roller balls;
- spray-over caps and dispenser parts.
Key attributes of the new grade include stiffness for shape retention and a premium feel, heat resistance at virgin polymer level ensuring product stability and shelf life, and scratch resistance. The natural colour simplifies recycling, lowers costs and provides a neutral base for colouring in any shade — from light to deep tones.
Safety and compliance are confirmed by certificates: the recycled materials carry an FDA No Objection Letter (NOL), are certified as Post-Consumer Recyclate (PCR) by RecyClass and comply with ISO 14021 environmental labelling standards.
The launch of rPP1025C is the second Recycl-IN hybrid grade INEOS has developed for cosmetics packaging, building on the success of the previous rPP2030C. The Recycl-IN range includes ready-made hybrid polyolefin compounds for rigid and flexible applications in industries such as automotive, construction and packaging.
The announcement came at the end of January 2026 and highlights the efforts of major polymer producers to move the beauty industry towards more sustainable materials in response to tightening environmental regulations, including PPWR rules in the European Union.
